Abstract.

The events of the Ukrainian scientific seminar on the topic «Eastern Europe in Germany’s policy: the Ukrainian aspect», which took place on February 9, 2024, are highlighted. It is indicated that the seminar was organized and conducted by the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of Foreign Countries of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. It is noted that the seminar took place within the framework of the development of the bachelor’s educational program «American and European Studies» (with the advanced study of foreign languages).

The relevance of the international seminar is determined by the place and role of Germany in Ukrainian history and today. It is important that Germany currently supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine, provides it with humanitarian and military-technical assistance during the full-scale Russian military aggression launched in 2022. Therefore, in his introductory speech, moderator Oleg Kupchyk reminded the participants of the seminar about the 105th Anniversary of the conclusion of the Brest Peace Treaty. After him, the German Empire, together with the Austrian-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires, as well as the Bulgarian Kingdom, recognized the Ukrainian People’s Republic and established diplomatic relations with it. Then the Germans and Austrian-Hungarians provided military aid to the Ukrainians against Russian-Bolshevik aggression.

The landmark event of the international seminar was the presentation of the monograph «Global Dimensions of Germany’s Foreign Policy (2005–2021)» (Kyiv, 2022). The co-authors of the book were professors, doctors of historical sciences Andrii Kudriachenko (director of the Institute of World History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) Andrii Martynov (leading researcher of the Department of History of International Relations and Foreign Policy of Ukraine at the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine). In particular, Mr. Andrii Martynov introduced the audience to the main idea of the book, the circumstances of its writing, the main provisions and conclusions.

The reports delivered by scientists and teachers during the seminar concerned the history of Germany (O. Ivanov, A. Martynov, O. Mashevsky) and German-Ukrainian relations (D. Vedeneev, P. Hai-Nyzhnyk, I. Datskiv, O. Kupchyk, Ya. Kupchyk, A. Koshelev, I. Kshevetskyi, V. Lyulka, O. Sukhobokova, L. Shpakovsky). The participation in the seminar with the students’ scientific reports became noticeable. Each of the reports became the subject of an active discussion.
