AZERBAIJAN IN THE INTERNALIZATION OF HISTORICAL AND ORIENTAL STUDIES EDUCATION AT KYIV UNIVERSITY

Abstract. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale military invasion, Azerbaijan has been providing significant humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. Azerbaijani views on the Russian-Ukrainian war are in favor of the Ukrainians. Moreover, many Azerbaijanis are bravely defending Ukraine against the Russian aggressor.

Organized within the framework of the educational program «Oriental Studies» at the Faculty of History, webinars and interviews on Azerbaijani studies have become not only an expression of gratitude for Azerbaijan’s support of Ukraine but also aimed to draw the attention of the scientific and educational community to the relevant issues of both the past and present of the Azerbaijani people.

On July 10, 2023, a scientific webinar «Azerbaijan in History and Politics» took place. The main speaker at this event was Musa Jafar GASIMLI, the Director of the Institute of Caucasian Studies, a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, Professor, Doctor of Historical Sciences, and a Member of the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. During the seminar, Mr. Musa shed light on lesser-known aspects of the history of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (1918–1920), contemporary internal developments in Azerbaijan, and its foreign policy.

On July 20, 2023, a scientific webinar «Southern Azerbaijan in History and Politics» took place. The main speaker for this event was Ilgar NIFTALIYEV,  the Deputy Director of the Institute of History of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, a Doctor of Historical Sciences, and an Associate Professor. He noted that during the Soviet period, «the topic of Southern Azerbaijan was forbidden, including for academic research,» but with the restoration of independence in 1991, this topic became one of the leading areas of research in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

On August 1, 2023, an interview «Modern Southern Azerbaijan» with Saleh KAMRANI, an Azerbaijani lawyer and politician was conducted. Mr. Saleh discussed the situation of Azerbaijanis in the IRI and what motivated him to engage in human rights activities. He also provided insights into the Azerbaijani National Movement, its goals, tasks, organizational forms, and methods of work.
