Abstract.
The events of the international seminar «Eastern Europe in the politics of the Scandinavian countries: the Ukrainian aspect», which took place on June 3, 2023, are highlighted in the article. It is indicated that the seminar was organized and conducted by the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of Foreign Countries of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. It is noted that the seminar took place within the framework of the development of the bachelor’s educational program «American and European Studies» (with the advanced study of foreign languages).
The relevance of the international seminar is determined by the place and role of the Scandinavian countries in Ukrainian history and nowadays. It is important that the Scandinavian countries currently support the territorial integrity of Ukraine, and provide it with humanitarian and military-technical assistance during the full-scale Russian military aggression launched in 2022. Therefore, in his welcoming speech, Professor Oleh Mashevskyi thanked Sweden for the assistance provided to Ukraine and noted the role of cultural and scientific diplomacy for mutual understanding between our peoples and countries.
A significant event of the international seminar was the presentation of the book «Treasures of the Swedish Archives. Documents on the history of Ukraine» (Odesa, 2021). The co-authors of the book are Maryna Trattner, Master of Laws, researcher Ihor Poluektov, and Oleksandr Malyshev, Candidate of Law Sciences. In particular, Mrs. M. Trattner spoke about the archives of Sweden, which contain documents from the history of Swedish-Ukrainian relations, and introduced the audience to the peculiarities of the work of researchers in Swedish archives. In turn, I. Poluektov separately focused on the methodological and organizational aspects of preparing the book. O. Malyshev also assessed the impact of Scandinavian political systems and rights on state formation and nation-building in Ukraine.
The reports given during the seminar by scientists, teachers, and graduate students concerned the history of Scandinavia (O. Mashevskyi, A. Martynov, O. Komarenko, V. Kukhta, D. Pugachova-Lakishyk, V. Pilkevych, V. Udovik, V. Lyulka) and relations Scandinavian countries with Ukraine (I. Datskiv, N. Teres, O. Kupchyk, Ya. Kupchyk, O. Sukhobokova, A. Koshelev, L. Shpakovsky, E. Kostyk).
